After revolution of february 1917 (republican, not socialist) russian
warships hoisted different red flags (very often with inscriptions and
different mottos).

On 1 may 1917, Centrobalt (Central Commettee of Baltic Fleet) ordered to
all warships to hoist Andrewʼs flag. It was
named “provisional flag”. Several ships added to Andrewʼs flag a red stripe
(battleship Petropavlovsk — Andrewʼs flag with red vertical stripe
on fly selvage etc.).
