About the flag

The flag of Härjedalen shows tools used in metal working. The flag is a banner of arms.

Härjedalen was conquered from Norway in 1658, but the arms of Härjedalen was not formaly granted until 1884, based on a seal known to have been in use from 1647.

This image is based on the image of the county flag of the County of Jamtland made by Mello Luchtenberg.

Official blazon in Swedish: "I fält av silver en framifrån sedd svart räckhammare med röd skaftända, åtföljd till höger av en svart smidestång och till vänster av två stolpvis ordnade och ställda svarta smideshammare med röda skaft, den övre störtad."

Blazoned in English: "Argent a Sledgehammer Sable with Core Gules between Tongs of the second and two Hammers adorsed in pale of the second handled Gules."
