arms granted in 1567, revised grant on 19 June 1936.

About the flag

The flag is a banner of the arms. The arms were granted to the province in 1567 (to replace arms from 1560 which had a wolverine in them). The eagle was for a long time black on gold, but at the revised grant on 19 June 1936, the original colours were retaken.
