Rajec new flag

Rajec new flag by Jarig Bakker, 14 Aug 2002

The city of Rajec (Zilina okres, Zilina region, Slovakia) apparently has a new flag, see this webpage; description here.
The simple flag (vlajka) is a swallowtailed BWBW flag - very unassuming compared with the long flag (zastava), a vertical banner with St. Ladislaus in chief over the city colors. Ladislaus (Hungarian: Laszlo) lived 1040-1095, born in Neustra, died in Nitra (I assume they're the same place, presently in Slovakia), elected king of Hungary in 1077. As usual with saints depicted this way he was a real fire-eater, venerated for his zeal, piety and moral life, canonized in 1192 by Pope Celestine III. Saint's day: June 27.

Rajec is 21 km south of Zilina in northwest Slovakia. It is an ancient little town with much handicraft production.
