Adoption of Official City Flag

At the Ketchikan City Council meeting of December 16, 1999, the design of Daniel Sheets (age 11) was adopted, in its adapted form, as the official flag of the City of Ketchikan as detailed in the December 10, 1999 correspondence of the Ketchikan Centennial Committee. The flag was chosen after a competition for the design of a city flag. Daniel Sheets said he came up with the idea because Ketchikan is the salmon capital of the world.
