Description of the Flag

Fort Mifflin was important in preventing the advance of the British fleet up the Delaware River to relieve the British troops at Trenton. Washington's army was camped upriver, but Fort Mifflin raised a huge flag (still does - check the web page - US Park Service...) 'so large it could be seen in Philadelphia'. According to some literature there at the fort, the Fr Mifflin flag was later used as a naval flag, and was considered as the flag of the Continental Navy for a while. I'll go back to re-read that and quote it exactly for future reference.

The flag was/is composed of thirteen horizontal stripes in a repeated pattern of (from the top) red-white-blue, ending with a red stripe.
