According to the minutes of the Tuesday, October 25, 1988, meeting of the Augusta County Board of Supervisors (minutes sent to me by the executive secretary for the Board):
"The Chairman explained that on April 26, 1988, in preparation for the 250th anniversary commemorating the founding of Augusta County, the Augusta County Board of Supervisors, Governing Body for the County of Augusta, formed a Flag Committee to establish a flag for Augusta County. This committee consisted of Messrs. Curry, Beyeler and McGehee.
"This project was presented to all students in the County School System to participate in such a project.
"Of 600 plus entries received, three designs were chosen submitted by Shranda Bosserman, Beverley Manor Elementary School; Martha Buchanan, Beverley Manor Elementary School; and Jessica L. Horn, Churchville Elementary School. These students were present and recognized by the Chairman. They will receive a flag along with a savings bond from the Board.
"With some modification, the flag committee has presented a recommendation to the Governing Body. The recommended flag consisted of the rounded seal of Augusta County trimmed in gold and placed on a background of green. On the outside perimeter of the seal, the word Augusta County encircles the seal with the year 1738 placed across the middle of the flag.
"The flag will be made by the Buffalo Gap FHA Club and will be flown at the 250th anniversary celebration on November 9, 1988, at the County Courthouse, Staunton, VA.
"On the motion of Mr. Hull, seconded by Mr. Beyeler, the Board accepted the Committee's recommendation and thereby adopted the official flag for Augusta County."
