When the President of Uruguay or the Minister of Defense are on board Navy ships they use their own ranks ensigns.

Like in most Latin American countries, the President of the República Oriental del Uruguay wears a Banda Presidencial (Presidential Sash) in special ceremonial occasions. This sash is given to the President after his oath.
The Presidential Sash has 9 white and blue stripes with a similar design to the Pabellón Nacional (Uruguayan National Flag) design. In the center there is an embroidered Uruguayan Coat of Arms that has gold embroidered details. The most noticeable differences of this Coat of Arms with the common ones are that the branches, the horse and the hill of Montevideo are golden instead of being represented in their own colors.
