Description of the flag

Grimbergen (33,000 inhabitants) is located in the arrondissement of Halle-Vilvoorde.

The flag is: Or, a fess Gules, a saltire Azure over it. Proportions are 2:3, and 3:2:3 for the fess.

The flag was adopted on 1 December 1981.

The municipal coat of arms is described as follows:

The arms were granted on December 20, 1846. The arms are identical to the arms of the Lords of Grimbergen, an important Flemish noble family, who originated from the Grimbergen castle. The local council used the arms already on its seals known from the 13th century. All later seals and images also show the same arms.
