Zemst (19,500 inhabitants) is located in the arrondissement of Halle-Vilvoorde. Zemst was mentioned in an old Mechelen chronicle as being in existence in 961, when King Arnulph of Carinthia defeated the Vikings near Leuven.

The flag is in proportion 2:3, diagonally divided, from top left corner to bottom right corner, black-yellow-green-yellow-bleck.

The flag was adopted on 25 June 1985.

[HZC burgee]by Ivan Sache

Hofstade is a Belgian city incorporated into the municipality of Zemst since 1976. Hofstade is located south of Mechelen, on the road to Leuven. BLOSO (the sport and leisure agency of the Flemish government) owns in Hofstade a domain with a 35-ha lake.

Until 2002, the Hofstade Zeil Club was known as VVW-Hofstade and used the VVW burgee. Today, it has c. 100 members and uses a burgee designed by Thierry Demblon. The burgee is white with a large blue stripe along the hoist and a big yellow H in the white field. Blue stands for water and air, white for the sails and yellow for the sun, warmth and friendship.
