Description of the flag

De Haan (11,000 inhabitants) is located in the arrondissement of Ostende. De Haan is renowned for a history of beach-combing. De Haan is now a bathing resort.

The flag is: Party per fess, Gules, Argent and Vert. In the fess Argent, an open cross Gules. Proportions are 2:3.

The municipal arms are described as follows:

"The arms are a combination of a canting rooster (haan) in the upper right corner. The fish is derived from the arms of Wenduine, whereas the point shows the former arms of Vlissegem. The cross also appeared in the arms of Klemskerke."

The flag was adopted on 10 December 1986.
