The Flag Data Bank focuses on computer applications in Vexillology. A test version was published in April 1994, and the first regular issue in October 1994. There will be two issues a year.
The aim of the journal is to fill the gap of information about computer applications in flags reserach, and stimulate the exchange of experiences and ideas in the field of computer assisted vexillology. It will report about solutions of documentation problems related to flag data, design and literature. FDB will serve readers with various interests and different levels of computer skills.

The test issue informs about the ideas behind the bulletin, but also reports on the origins and experiences of the first flag data banks — three different projects initiated in Catalonia and Germany. There are items on other activities using computers for flag reserach as well.

The first regular issue carries an instructive article by Mario Fabretto about formats and technique in designing flags with a computer, with a step by step illustration of the construction of the flag of British Columbia. Then there are articles on documentation of flag literature and bibliography management. The Director of the Flag Institute, Dr. William G. Crampton writes about the Flag Institute’s "Guide to Standard Flag Colours". And there is a review of the shareware programme "Flags of every Nation under the Sun". The articles are well illustrated.
