Approved by Law Nº 665/86, 13 May 1986, the flag of Pato Branco is a design that won a
competition sponsored by the municipal government in 1967. It follows the national flag's proportions
(14 units by 20 units). The upper area consists of a right triangle in flag-green, with
its legs measuring 13 units on the hoist and 19 units on the fly. On the triangle is a white five-pointed star
centered three units from the hoist and three units from the upper edge of the flag.
The star will fit within a circle of 2 units radius. The remainder of the flag is white, on which are placed
(a) a golden-yellow stripe, 2 units wide, issuing from the lower left corner
and ending in the upper right corner, parallel to the hypotenuse of the
green triangle and separated from it by one unit; (b) a flag-green circle,
2.5 units in radius, centered 4 units above the lower edge and 4 units from
the fly. On the lower half of the circle, a white hand, seen from the back,
the fingers toward the left and holding a golden circle with a diameter of
2.5 units, on which is stamped a small duck, facing in the same direction as the hand. The flag is
the same on both sides, except that the hand is shown in the same direction
on both sides. The green triangle is for the vegetation of the region in
its primitive state as well as for hope. White is for peace, which leads to
friendship, loyalty, harmony, pure intentions, and happiness. Yellow is for
natural resources with which Pato Branco is blessed, as well as for progress.
The green circle is for the farms and urban green areas. The hand represents work, which generates the wealth
symbolized by the coin stamped with the symbol of Pato Branco (meaning White
Duck). The star illuminates the work of the people and symbolizes
inspiration, creativity, and intellectual strength.
