From Ralf Hartemink's International Civic Arms website:
The arms were granted on April 22, 1963. The arms show in the dexter half the golden lion of the Pfalz, as parts of the district were parts of the Pfalz since the 13th century. The silver lion with the inescutcheon is taken from the arms of Johann Count of Tilly who in the 17th century acquired several estates in the present district. The wavy pale is the Laaber river.Literature: Stadler 1964-1972.
