Overview

Josipdol is a community in he Karlovac County, population 6,500 (about 1,100 in the town of the same name itself), some 40 km southwest of Karlovac, south of the city of Ogulin. The ancient city of Modruš, nowdays in ruins is ocated in the community. Modruš provided the name of the 1886-1918 westernmost Croatian county of Mudruš-Rijeka. The medieval rulers of Modruš were the Frankopan famly, one of the most important of Croatian feudal families - princes of Krk and Modruš.
The Coat of Arms and the flags were adopted in 2003, without dobt designed by the Heraldik-art d.o.o. The coat of arms of Josipdol is argent a heraldic helmet proper with a mantle gules and or and for the crest a wing per fess gules and or a mullet of the last in the first.
This is the helmet and the crest of the Frankopan family, whise coat of arms is: per fess gules and or in the first a mullet of the second. Such helmet and crest are usually set above the shield, that would contain the main heraldic emblems, and the use of helmet as a charge in the shield itself is very unusual.
The flag is red with the coat of arms in the middle.
The Ceremonial Flag is red gonflaon with the coat of arms in the middle, the
