Chuvashya was established first as Chuvash Autonomous Oblast
within Russian SFSR on 24 june 1920, and transformed into Chuvash
ASSR on 21 april 1925.
Mark Sensen, 15 Jul 1996
Adopted 31 march 1927. A red flag with a very large white canton
(7/9th of flag height) with a border of Chuvash ornament (red, blue,
green and gold). In the canton the initials (ChASSR) in red, and a
hammer and sickle.
Mark Sensen, 15 Jul 1996, quoting Daan van Leeuwen
([vxn] Vexilla Nostra 106)
Adopted 12 February 1931. A red flag with yellow hammer and sickle
and initials, and in the upper part the inscription: «Proletarians of
all nations, unite!» in Chuvash cyrillic script.
Mark Sensen, 15 Jul 1996, quoting Daan van Leeuwen
(Vexilla Nostra 106)
Adopted on 19 May 1933, because the Chuvash script was Russified:
the t-with-ogoneck was changed into the ch-sign, and one t in
"proletarians" was deleted.
Mark Sensen, 15 Jul 1996, quoting Daan van Leeuwen
([vxn] Vexilla Nostra 106)
Adopted 18 July 1937. A red flag with the initials of the
union-republic (RSFSR) and the name of the ASSR in both Russian
and Chuvash.
mark sensen 15 Jul 1996, quoting Daan van Leeuwen
([vxn] Vexilla Nostra 106)
Adopted 11 June 1940, because "RSFSR" in Russian and Chuvash
are exactly the same, one was deleted. Note that the "ASSR" behind
the names were shared.
mark sensen, 15 Jul 1996, quoting Daan van Leeuwen
([vxn] Vexilla Nostra 106)
Adopted 6 May 1954, because of new regulations concerning flags
of the ASSRs. Flag of the Russian SFSR, with the same inscriptions
as the previous flag.
