Zwijndrecht is located in the arrondissement of Antwerp. The place name is derived from swin - water running through land outside the dikes and drecht - running water. Zwijndrecht (near Rotterdam, in the Netherlands) has the same origin.
The flag is vertically divided green-white-blue, with a white star in the middle of the green and blue stripes and an olive branch in the white stripe.
The flag was adopted by Municipal decision 28 May 1980, and confirmed by Ministerial decision 2 April 1981.
