The tiny city of Sloten/Sleat has merged with the municipality of Gaasterland/Gaasterlân in 1984, along with part on Himmelumer Âldeferd. It's in southwest Friesland along the IJsselmeer and the municipality is one of the most beautiful regions of Fryslân.
The hare on the flag has been derived from the CoA of Gaasterland, while the pinnacled wall was from the old CoA of Sloten, which still has 5 bulwarks (bolwerken). Flag adopted
